Rafael Nadal and Ana Ivanovic booked their place in the next round of Wimbledon 2014 as they finished their first round assignments respectively. Second seeded Rafael Nadal was tested by unseeded Martin Klizan as he beat the Spaniard in the first set 6-4. But Nadal managed to bounce back and secure the next three sets to end the match 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3. Ana Ivanovic in the other hand won the battle between two former French Open champions as she overcame a gritty challenge from Francesca Schiavone 7-6 6-4.

Waiting for Nadal and Ivanovic in the second round are two familiar opponents. They are two former opponents who made life difficult for both seeds in their previous encounters particularly in Wimbledon. Rafael Nadal will be facing Lucas Rosol, the same player who beat him in the same round in Wimbledon 2012. Nadal was defeated in tight five sets 7-6(9), 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6. After that match, Rafael Nadal went to hiatus missing the US Open and Australian Open the following year citing a knee injury.

With victory against Schiavone, Ivanovic earned a clash against her former Wimbledon conqueror Jie Zheng from China. The last time they meet was in the third round in Wimbledon 2008, it was the year when Ana won the French Open a month before and was seeded first in Wimbledon. But during their match in the lawns of Wimbledon, it looks though that the seeding did not matter. Zheng dominated the match and sent Ivanovic sent packing 6-1 6-4. Zheng reached the semifinals that year, falling to eventual runner-up Serena Williams.

Will history repeat itself? Can Nadal and Ivanovic will get their most awaited revenge against their conquerors?
