Marion Bartoli Wins First Wimbledon Title After Defeating Sabine Lisicki in the Finals

Marion Bartoli of France wins her first grand slam at the expense of Germany's Sabine Lisicki in Wimbledon finals. Marion outfoxed Sabine in straight sets 6-1 6-4.

The second time Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli was broken in her opening service game but it did not deter her from winning the first set. After Sabine broke her to lead at 1-0, Marion immediately broke back to level the game afterwards. Sabine who plays for the first time in a grand slam final looks extremely nervous. With her unforced errors climbing up, the German couldn't simply keep up with Marion's barrage of flat ground strokes and race to 5-1 lead. Another error from Lisicki ended the first set after her forehand hit the net cord.

The second set was a similar story with a twist though. Again, Marion Bartoli race to a 5-1 lead but Sabine Lisicki quickly came back to life with the help of her serves. From 5-1 down, Lisicki put up some resistance to trail at 4-5. But Bartoli could not be denied. Sensing that the title was one game away, she lead the last game at 40-0 and closed out the set with an ace. She fell to her knees to celebrate her first grand slam title at Wimbledon!
